Dakos is a barley rusk originated from Crete. It is perfect for snack, dinner or light lunch when combined with tomato, capers, oregano and olive oil!
However, the cretan dakos can be an ideal solution for a starter. If you are curious, keep on reading :)
Ingredients:
Cretan Dakos of your choice
300 gr cream creese
100 gr Greek yogurt
100 gr feta cheese
Salt (optional)
Tomato jam
Recipe:
Mix the cream cheese, the Greek yogurt and the feta with a little bit of salt. You can mix them with your hand (recommended) or use a blender (don't mix it too much, it will become watery).
How to serve it
Add a generous portion of the cream on each dakos and garnish with tomato jam.
Alternatively, you can crumble the dakos, add some olive oil to create a savory cheese cake in three (or five layers), dakos in the base, cream cheese in the middle and the tomato jam on top. In this case, I recommend the Carob Small Bites. Plus the appearance is quite impressive!
Tip 1: You can spray the dakos with an aromatic olive oil (like oregano olive oil) or just olive oil for extra taste and flavor.
Tip 2 : I love dakos but the idea fits well with various rusks or crackers as well.
Enjoy!
